Acne scarring treatment is something that many acne sufferers eventually need to consider – unless they don’t mind living with the scars of previous acne. Unfortunately severe acne, particularly in a person’s youth, will often lead to scarring once the acne clears up. This is generally in the form of pock marks and other lesions. If your acne was particularly bad then the scarring can leave your face and parts of your body looking rather unsightly and this can be extremely embarrassing and may cause a drop in self esteem and even depression. So what you can do to treat your acne scars?
These are actually the healings of the damage that acne once caused to your skin. There are many home remedies available to treat this scarring. There is also the option of certain types of laser treatment that claims to remove scars altogether. Although the success rate varies depending upon who you talk to, laser is an expensive option but one to consider if other methods have failed for you.
What is required to fade or remove acne scarring is more collagen in the skin. So, you require a product or procedure that will help to produce more collagen in the scar area. This collagen will then fill the small hole or depression that makes up the scars.
There are a few types of common acne scars. One is the boxcar scar which are shallow and round. The next are the icepick scars which are particularly deep and harder to remove. These are both types of depressed scars. Then there are raised scars called keloids which are less common but cause a mass of tissue to grow on the area.
The first step to acne scarring treatment is to consult your dermatologist who will be able to determine how severe your scars are and how invasive the treatment will need to be. Not all treatment types are suitable for all types of skin so this is an important step.
Vitamin C and Vitamin E are both considered to be an excellent collagen booster. There are also topical collagen boosters called topical retinoids that you can ask your dermatologist about.
