There are many possible acne treatments currently available but scientists are always searching for a newer, more potent solution to combat various types of acne.  Because acne can occur in so many forms in so many different presentations it is exceptionally difficult to come up with a ‘one size fits all’ solution.

There is still no one reason that doctors can agree on that people get acne, so any treatment is going to be a trial and error situation. The best way to find the right acne treatment for you is to trial various options. The optimum time to try out new acne treatments is at least 6 months so that it has time to take effect,

Blue Light Therapy
Blue light therapy is one new acne treatment currently being closely looked at by experts. It works by exposing your skin to a blue light which is low intensity. This light source aims to destroy P. acnes. The procedure is painless and occurs over a number of sessions. Ongoing treatment is necessary for ultimate results as P. acnes rapidly multiplies. There may be some mild side effects of blue light therapy such as redness and skin dryness, however this is temporary. A blue and red light therapy is also in development.

Pulsed Light Therapy
Pulsed light therapy coupled with heat energy therapy is becoming a popular treatment for acne. It is an FDA approved procedure that works by shrinking the sebaceous glands which are responsible for producing the oil associated with excess acne. Green-yellow light pulses are combined with heat to treat mild and moderate acne cases.

Diode Laser
The aim of this treatment is to destroy the sebaceous glands in the skin’s middle layer, whilst leaving the outer layer untouched. There is some slight pain associated with laser treatment however it subsides immediately.  Some slight swelling and redness may temporarily occur in the treated area.

Laser treatments for acne have been used for many years with some success, but they are now being expanded to include different technologies that will aim to treat the cause of acne rather than just the symptoms.

New acne treatments are being developed all the time. Ask your doctor about the latest treatment options so that you can move closer to getting rid of acne for good – or take a look at this and see how this new acne treatment could help you in your fight against acne.
